Vulcan wore a Holux M1000C GPS logger at the Castlepoint run on Sunday (actually at the Whakatiki rivermouth just before Castlepoint proper). The track recorded is shown below. Bear in mind that the sea level and river were much higher than shown, some of the dogs got very, very wet.

The weather wasn’t as nice as it was at the time the map image was taken 😦Â
Next image shows the data for a point on the recorded track.

It is also possible to display a graph showing speeds during the run. This shows that the average speed of a pack of greyhounds messing around is quite low, but they reached speeds of up to 48km/h for short periods though generally ran at lower peak speeds than that.

Melee at the Castlepoint run on Sunday. These dogs had a great time.

Vulcan looking very pleased and relaxed at the Martinborough dog run earlier this week.

Vulcan at the Upper Hutt run today. He gets right into it, there won’t be any running if he isn’t involved! (After he has marked the entire perimeter of the grounds, of course).

Wild at the Upper Hutt run today. Still a little shy, but getting more friendly and interactive with people and dogs. Tends to just potter around, go for walks with other people and not actually run at all.

Vulcan and Wild are good mates – Vulcan tolerates Wild when he’s in a playful mood. The only time Vulcan has growled at Wild was when Wild tried to drag Vulcan’s bed across the lounge. While Vulcan was in it.

One of these dogs looks a bit more intelligent than the other. Who wouldn’t want to adopt such a bright inquisitive little dog?

Wild is fascinated by the other dog in the mirror, and goes to say hello to it every chance he gets.
