Raro met his brother Sonic (Lochinvar Sonic) at the Mt Muanganui greyhound walk today.

This is Penny, she stayed with us and the boys for a week when Jos went to her dad’s wedding. Penny is far brighter than either of the boys, and is very playful and energetic.
Very well behaved and very trainable; absolutely focused on what we are doing, even if it is nothing at all. She’s not tall and elegant like the boys but has a very pretty face and a charming personality.

Raro’s loving the new window – the sill is now low enough to easily see out.
This our new foster, Swiper. We don’t know anything about him, except he’s quite young, never raced.
Very handsome young guy, extremely friendly and inquisitive, very trainable, which is good because he doesn’t know much. Very attentive.
Apprehensive about traffic, bikes and dogs approaching towards him – but very well behaved with other dogs. He’s quite pushy with our boys, luckily Vulcan and Raro are very tolerant.
He’s going to make a superb pet, and will be a lot of fun.

Since we’re dealing with Raro, here’s his racing profile (from thedogs.co.nz).
We’ve fostered other dogs from Big Daddy Cool; and yes, Raro is an Aussie 🙂

And what does a car have to do with Vulcan?
That’s easy – this is a shot of a Chevy Camaro, which is the car that Raro (Lochinvar Camaro) is named after. Camaro is a made-up word, specifically used for naming this car.
We don’t see many of these in NZ, but they are very common in Oman (where this shot was taken) and the Police even use them – petrol is cheap and they like their american muscle cars.

There is a reason the dogs are required to wear a plastic muzzle at the GAP runs – if they get a bit boisterous, as here, there is much less chance of injury. Greyhounds have very thin skin that tears easily, which can be costly in vet bills. Vulcan has had to be patched up twice since we’ve had him, just from accidents that wouldn’t affect other breeds to the same extent.
In this photo, about 3 dogs are being a bit exuberant, you can even see the spittle flying from the black and white one. Interesting that some dogs have an attitude problem, while others just go with the flow.

Pretty good turn out for the GAP run at Upper Hutt today, well over 20 very well-behaved dogs. Cold and overcast and windy – perfect for the dogs who just laze around if it is too hot.

Raro and Vulcan were working today, meeting the public at the Eastbourne Carnival. Really crappy morning weather turned out really nice in the afternoon, with many more people about. The greyhounds always attract a lot of interest and people were … Continue reading
